I’m curious — never having been to South Africa — what is the significance of what look like wavy lane markers painted in the street? I’ve not seen that before, or elsewhere.

I was wondering myself. Here’s the reason “They are used in conjunction with zebra/road crossings to prevent vehicles from parking or loading/unloading in those areas. This is done to enable the pedestrian who is legally crossing the road at this point to be able to see clearly any on coming traffic (and allow traffic to clearly see the pedestrian.”
