“Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope and happiness out of the air around them.
Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. You will be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life.” – J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter
Dementors can be a symbol of depressed feelings. As soon as those feelings hit you, they slowly suck the happiness out of you, if you allow it to. It’s necessary to equip ourselves with the right “spells”/tools to fight off these negative feelings.
In the films that tool is beautifully represented by thinking of the happiest memory you have and that will blast out of the wand and chase the dementor away. I think, to some degree, the same can be done in reality. When you feel the dark emotions beginning to come near you, think of the happiest memories you have. Write them down on paper. Recall the memory in detail. Think or write about the things and people you are grateful for in your life.
The point is to nudge yourself out of the negative spiral and loop, and with time, swim to the surface.
Do Dementors exist in real life?

No, they don’t. But if you ask a Potterhead, they might tell you differently.

Reblogged this on Dambana ng Luntiang Aghama and commented:
I found this at WordPress talking about Dementors. This might be a mythological creatures or just a product of our imagination. But in reality, some people are becoming dementors by sucking off all our positive vibes within ourselves.
As i have said, we as humans are living in a pool of energies and as energies comes to human being it is transformed either good or bad. And these conditions differs from one another as to some bad is good for them and to other good is bad.
Let us all be aware of what we are becoming in our daily lives.

Being a harry potter enthusiast , my eyes lit up as soon as I saw the title . Truly , JK Rowling has beautifully portrayed depression and the way out . It’s like using a little magic to survive reality . Thanks , I needed the motivation !!

Yes, this is so well put. It’s something I’ve practiced for a long time. In my case I think of my favorite places, which are almost all wild places.

So true. It’s necessary to always keep oneself oriented with positive things that have happened in life which can keep life alive.

I really like this parallel you drew between depressing feelings and dementors. And don’t forget the chocolate, one of Professor Lupin’s lessons that I always follow to the letter 😀
